8-13-21 As many of you already know, the South Central Board of Education met last night and took no action on adopting the state mask mandate. What this means is that we will revert back to the recommended (parent choice) plan adopted on July 21st. We have our next school board meeting Wednesday, August 18th, 6 p.m. @ South Central Unit Office. We have no plans to discuss or place face coverings or our Return to Learn Plan as an agenda item. Thus, action can't take place regarding either item. We feel we have a good plan to start the school year and look forward to a great start of the 2021-2022 school year. HS Baseball 1st Practice August 9th at Lions Field 5pm for freshman and new players. 6pm for returning players HS Volleyball 1st Practice August 9th at HS Gym 3-6pm MS Softball 1st Practice July 26th at Webster Field 3-5pm, Parent meeting after practice on July 26th MS Baseball 1st Practice August 2nd at Farina Park Field 5-7pm, Parent meeting after practice on August 2nd All athletes have to have an up to date physical on file in the office with proof of insurance as well too practice. Before their first game, kids will need signed handbook forms in and their sports fee paid.

SCHS Cook job opening

We are excited to announce that CDC/IDPH/ISBE recognizes local control during Phase 5 as stated in the following paragraph. “Together with local public health officials, school administrators should consider multiple factors when they make decisions about implementing layered prevention strategies against COVID-19. Since schools serve their surrounding communities, decisions should be based on the school population, families, and students served, as well as their communities.” The 21-22 school year will begin with a mask optional policy based on our current conditions. Masks will still be required while riding the school buses. We removed layers of mitigations one at a time during the 20-21 school year. We are in an excellent place to take this next step. We will continue to monitor the health of our students and staff and adjust accordingly if needed. If conditions worsen we will revisit our policies. The South Central Band is looking forward to participating in this year's Farina 4th of July Parade! The Parade will take place on Saturday, July 3rd at 3PM. All current and former students are welcome to come participate! If you would like to play with us you must come to our Parade rehearsal on July 2nd from 1 to 4pm at the SC Middle School. We will rehearse the song and discuss the logistics of the parade. Any questions or concerns can be sent to Mr. Steininger at asteininger@southcentralschools.org

Baseball Cougars will play in the state tourney Thursday at Illinois State University in Normal. 1 pm game time vs Mt Pulaki. We will play a second game at either 4pm or 7pm that day as well.

Vandalia radio station 107.1 will be broadcasting the super sectional game at Carbondale today.

Congratulations to your baseball team on its Sectional championship! It’s extremely important for your administration, coaches, families, students, and fans to know that ALL Super Sectional and State Finals tickets will be digital tickets this year. There will be no cash ticket sales at the gate. Please help us spread the word with your team parents, grandparents, students, and fans. To purchase digital tickets, baseball fans can: Download the GOFAN app. Click this link: GOFAN. Click this logo on the left side of the IHSA home page. Select your game, and purchase tickets with a credit card. ALL Super Sectional and State Finals tickets are digital. Super Sectional tickets: $7 State Finals tickets: $10 Fans are able to purchase as many tickets as they wish. If some family members are unsure about the process, we encourage one family member to purchase all tickets for the entire family. When fans purchase tickets, they will receive an email with a link to their tickets. Fans simply show their phone at the gate to redeem their tickets and enter the stadium. At the State Finals, fans will need separate tickets for the semifinal games and the trophy games. There is a $1 + 5% service charge on each ticket. Use the normal IHSA Pass List for the Super Sectional. Email it to your Super Sectional host. If your team qualifies for the State Finals, we will have your Superintendent’s, Principal’s, and AD’s names on a Pass List. Their families and coaches’ families must purchase tickets for the Super Sectional and State Finals. Please contact the IHSA office with questions about digital tickets.
