South Central CUSD 401 Board Actions

  •  The Board approved the minutes, bills, and treasurer’s report.
  • The Board put the district tentative tax levy on display, a 4.99% increase as usual.

  • The Board heard from Superintendent Kerry Herdes and Kendall King from King Financial about the renewal of working cash bonds, The Board plans to renew the working cash bonds as last time and use the self-purchase option to keep cost down. The Board will pursue spreading the working cash bonds over a four year period, very similar to what was done the last ten years. With the governor taking a possible 15% decrease on the 20-21 education budget they wanted to be ahead of the game now and for the next few years while absorbing those losses.

  • The Board heard the first reading of the Press Policy updates for Nov. 2020.

  • The Board agreed to put the annual statement of affairs for the prior year on display as required.

  • The Board acknowledged the annual district report card where all three schools and the district overall were given the rating of "commendable."

  • The Board heard the superintendent’s report starting with the district receiving an Ameren sponsored grant for $36,000 to improve building efficiency in regard to heating and cooling areas of the building.

  • The Board approved Alex Phillips as a SCMS girls basketball coach for the current school year.

  • The Board approved a leave of absence for Betty McElyea beginning November 24th.

  • The Board ratified the three year contract between the South Central Board of Education and the South Central Education Association effective July 1, 2020 through June 30, 2023 for school years 2020-21, 2021-22, 2022-23, as presented.
