Board Actions for August 2020
The board approved the minutes, bills, and treasurer’s report.
The board approved the tentative budget and put it on display for 30 days. Superintendent
Kerry Herdes highlighted that it was an over budget of just over $6.6 million with a deficit of only $38,000 overall. “This is a pretty good start for us over many years in the past with having a much larger deficit to overcome. “ We have made conscious efforts throughout the district to help balance the budget and when you combine that with the state payment that have mostly been on time the past year it helps the budget stay on track. Great job to our SC Teachers, Staff, and Board!
The district formally approved their E-Learning Plan after having used it last spring.
The board approved the 2nd reading of the Press Policy updates for June 2020 and the 1st reading for updates to the Press Policy for August 2020.
The district approved local bank depositories as usual for the year.
Building Principals gave reports on their individual buildings giving details of each of their reopening plans. The reopening plans were summarized for each by Sara Rose, Greg Grinestaff, and Jamie VanScyoc. They were all extremely thankful for all the hard work and time their staff has put in to make these plans successful. Great job to all!
Superintendent Kerry Herdes commented “ Staff has worked diligently to come up with plans to have instruction with both in person and remote learners. I can’t say enough about how All SC Staff has worked as a Team to make learning safe for our students. We have great plans.”
The following were implemented into district plans:
Schools are using no touch thermometers for temps
Students are symptom checked each day
Water fountains using bottle fillers only
All students get an SC mask
All students get an SC water bottle
Assigned seats in classrooms
Social distancing in classrooms as much as possible
Hallway markings for social distancing
Plexiglass barriers in offices where applicable
Still making changes day by day. Week by week.
The superintendent also highlighted that the district was up slightly at 654 students over the 650 from last year. “Glad to see that.”
