Late this afternoon, SC Schools received notification of PA 102-0522, which is the new Comprehensive Sex Education Standards legislation being discussed across Illinois.
The district has no intention of changing the way sex ed. has been incorporated into the Health curriculum for as long as anyone can remember.
SC 401 does not have a comprehensive Sex Ed program and has no intention of providing such.
We will simply opt out of the new sex ed standards.
Parents do not need to provide any kind of opt out form since we have done this for all students.
Hope this helps put concerns at ease.

Supt. Of Schools

Close Contacts per guidance from IDPH August 2021
This can only be used if correct use of well-fitting masks, regardless of vaccination status.
Option 1: Quarantine at home for 14 calendar days. Date of last exposure is considered day 0.
Option 2: Quarantine for 10 calendar days after the close contact’s last exposure to the COVID-19 case. Date of last exposure is considered day 0.
The individual may end quarantine after day 10 if no symptoms of COVID-19 developed during daily monitoring.
o SARS-CoV-2 PCR testing is recommended and may be required by the local health department.
o The individual can maintain physical distancing and masking at all times when returning to school; for classrooms where masking is strictly adhered to as required, physical distance of 3 to 6 feet is acceptable for return.
Option 3: Quarantine period is for seven calendar days after the last exposure if:
o No symptoms developed during daily monitoring AND the individual has a negative SARS-CoV-2 diagnostic test (PCR) that was collected within 48 hours of exposure day 7 (starting on day 6 or after).
The individual is responsible for obtaining a copy of the negative results for documentation purposes.
o The individual can maintain physical distancing and masking at all times when returning to school; for classrooms where masking is strictly adhered to as required, physical distance of 3 to 6 feet is acceptable for return.
Regardless of when an individual ends quarantine, daily symptom monitoring should continue through calendar day 14 after the exposure. If any symptoms develop during or after quarantine, the individual should immediately self-isolate and contact their local health department or healthcare provider to report their symptoms. The health department can provide guidance on how to safely quarantine and isolate within the household.
Option 4-Test to Stay Protocol
IDPH now allows a modified quarantine approach for close contacts through a Test to Stay protocol, as has been documented by the CDC.
-Following any indoor exposures, with the exception of household exposures, you would need to get a test to stay from an approved test facility. Tests would need to be given on each of the 1,3,5,7 days for close contacts from date of exposure by a PCR or rapid Emergency Use Authorization (EUA)-approved test, close contacts are permitted to remain in the classroom as long as the results are negative. If the close contact is identified five days or more from the date of exposure, adjust testing accordingly, ideally on days five and seven after the last exposure. When testing in the outlined cadence is not possible due to weekends and holidays, students and staff who are not fully vaccinated should be tested at the earliest possible opportunity. Test to Stay is only applicable when both the COVID-19-confimed case and close contact were engaged in consistent and correctly wearing a mask.
Local health departments will make the final determination on who is to be quarantined and for how long and may determine that a close contact is not a candidate for modified quarantine due to a high-risk exposure (e.g., sustained close contact without masking). Local health departments have the authority to assess high-risk exposures and order a traditional quarantine without the option for Test to Stay. Test to Stay is only applicable when both the COVID-19-confimed case and close contact were engaged in consistent and correct use of well-fitting masks, regardless of vaccination status (i.e., universal masking), as required.

South Central School District has been taken off of probation and taken back to Full Recognition Status

Dear South Central Families,
The South Central 401 Board of Education voted tonight, 8/31 to comply with the mandate that all persons age 2 and up entering an Illinois public or private school must wear a face covering. This was an impossible decision however, the fiscal responsibility and consequences aimed at our students left little options. Beginning Wednesday, 9/1 masks will be required to be worn by all students, staff, and visitors inside South Central School buildings at all attendance centers.
We would like everyone to come together as a united front and ask for your cooperation to limit the distraction from educating our students, which is our number one priority, of this challenging mitigation strategy. We are asking you to trust that we have your children’s best interest at heart. We need them in school everyday, all day and to be able to continue to offer all activities to them for their development.
Thank you for the continued support of South Central School District #401.

We received this late yesterday afternoon:
IHSA Member School Administrators,
The IHSA Board of Directors met today for a busy meeting that included the establishment of an esports State Series. A full recap is below, but I want to start by highlighting an important action item related to fall State Series tournaments and schools who are not currently following the state mask mandate, which I pulled from the release and have placed here…
1. The Board approved a recommendation to institute two measures related to member school adherence to the state’s current Executive Order 85 mandating masks. IHSA schools will not be allowed to participate in the State Series for a sport if they remain on Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) probation for non-compliance with the state mask mandate on the date of seeding (or the list of participant entry deadline) in that sport. Additionally, the IHSA staff has been directed to set appropriate timelines based on the schedule for each fall sport to begin relieving schools of their State Series hosting responsibilities if they are currently on ISBE probation due to non-compliance with the state mask mandate.
Sport State Series Seeding/Entry Date
Boys & Girls Golf September 22
1A Boys Soccer September 23
2A/3A Boys Soccer September 30
Girls Volleyball October 7
Girls Tennis October 13
Boys & Girls Cross Country October 18
Football October 23
Girls Swimming & Diving November 1
IHSA Executive Director Craig Anderson:
“The IHSA Board of Directors did not look at this situation as being a pro-mask or anti-mask issue, nor did they view their ruling as any type of political stance. Setting aside their own personal opinions, they were unanimous in the belief that the IHSA is a rule-driven organization that should continue to align with ISBE rules for the good of its membership. The Board felt that not following the mandate was akin to a team picking and choosing what rules they were going to follow in a football game or volleyball match. Anecdotally, they shared a growing frustration among schools on how the scheduling process has been impacted by schools not following the mandate, which ultimately led them to set forth measures that they believe will help prevent some of those same issues from occurring during the postseason.”

Athletic eligibility will start being ran on Friday, September 3. It will be ran around 3:15 p.m.

As many of you already know, the South Central Board of Education met last night and took no action on adopting the state mask mandate. What this means is that we will revert back to the recommended (parent choice) plan adopted on July 21st.
We have our next school board meeting Wednesday, August 18th, 6 p.m. @ South Central Unit Office. We have no plans to discuss or place face coverings or our Return to Learn Plan as an agenda item. Thus, action can't take place regarding either item.
We feel we have a good plan to start the school year and look forward to a great start of the 2021-2022 school year. If you would like to express your thoughts on the executive order or mask mandate please feel free to use the contact list below.

We are excited to announce that CDC/IDPH/ISBE recognizes local control during Phase 5 as stated in the following paragraph.
“Together with local public health officials, school administrators should consider multiple factors when they make decisions about implementing layered prevention strategies against COVID-19. Since schools serve their surrounding communities, decisions should be based on the school population, families, and students served, as well as their communities.”
The 21-22 school year will begin with a mask optional policy based on our current conditions. Masks will still be required while riding the school buses. We removed layers of mitigations one at a time during the 20-21 school year. We are in an excellent place to take this next step. We will continue to monitor the health of our students and staff and adjust accordingly if needed. If conditions worsen we will revisit our policies.
Enjoy the rest of your summer and see you in August!

In an effort to allow more parents/spectators to be able to watch their children participate in athletic events at SCMS, we are making changes to our spectator guidelines. JV parents will now be allowed in as spectators during JV games. Once the JV games are finished, JV parents will be required to exit to allow the varsity/8th grade parents in to watch their child participate.
Due to meeting IDPH distance guidelines, seating is very limited. We will be strictly enforcing the JV/varsity guidelines to ensure we are keeping everyone as safe as possible at all times.
Just to clarify. SCMS Varsity/8th grade parents must wait until JV games have ended before they arrive to avoid putting us over the spectator limit. Thank you for your cooperation and enjoy the games!!

South Central School District 401 is sharing a COVID-19 Update.
4m ·
Below is a reminder of what the response and process from the health department and school district will be if a student tests positive for COVID.
What happens when there is a positive result for a student in the district? The health department will receive the results and notify the student’s family first. They will begin the process of contact tracing – by asking about everyone with whom the child has been in contact for longer than 15 minutes, closer than 6 ft. during the period of 48 hours prior to symptoms until present.
The health department will contact the school nurse/admin to assist with identifying students at the school.
The health department will begin the process of notifying children (parents) of their need to quarantine for 14 days from the date of their last contact with the student. The student’s identity will be protected in the best way possible. “Your child has been identified as a close contact.” Those students should be sent home as soon as feasibly possible.
The health department will call on these families daily during the quarantine period to ensure they are receiving the care they need and they have the resources they need. If the teacher is identified as a close contact, he/she will be sent home immediately to quarantine.
At this time, teachers who are asymptomatic will be able to teach from home while a substitute supervises their classroom.
Public announcement…. The health department and the school will issue a joint release naming the school where there is a positive case and let parents know they will receive a phone call from the health department within 24 hours IF their child is a Close Contact. If they do not receive a call, parents should not be concerned.
***When can sick student return to school? After 10 days IF 24 hours fever free without fever reducing medication and IF symptoms have dissipated.

Senior Night -- September 4 at 6:15 p.m.
We will be honoring our senior athletes, pep band and Scholar Bowl members on Friday, September 4 at 6:15 p.m. prior to the baseball game at Lions Field.

Huge thank you goes out to the entire Section 19 Officer Team and State FFA treasurer Taylor Hartke. The students had the opportunity to build towers to help elevate their goals. They also learned about making SMART short, intermediate, and long term goals.
